Atlanta PHP December Meeting
Thursday, December 1, 2005, 7pm
New Horizons, Tucker, GA

The December meeting sees the return of James Logsdon as a speaker. He will be speaking on object-oriented programming in PHP, and seasoned programmer and “newbie” alike should benefit from this discussion. Following the presentation, we’ll have more book give-aways that will be handled in a much improved manner entirely unlike last time.

The meeting will take place at the usual location at New Horizons Learning Center in Tucker, GA, and those who wish to grab pizza and drinks afterwards are encouraged to make their way to the Mellow Mushroom following the meeting.

* OOP in PHP
It’s taken almost 10 years for PHP to even start catching up in the world of Objects, and with the release of PHP5 the language has made a great leap. From the basics of OOP in PHP4 to neat tricks with the new Magic Methods and everything in between, James Logsdon will explore Object-Oriented Programming in PHP.

Come expecting great networking opportunities and chances to learn what other PHP developers are doing in the Atlanta area!

P.S. Future topic ideas and volunteers for presentations are welcome; please discuss on org@lists.atlphp.org

the new blog / server

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

My how the time flies. It seems like only yesterday I was setting up a “new server” and web-page….

She’s up. Running Wordpress now, and I like the theme, but it needs some changes, and plus not all my pages are migrated over…. I think the gallery2 installation went well — old links to the gallery1 are redirected, but not all the time and in all the cases.

our place featured on HGTV

Sunday, November 13th, 2005

Jodi and I have been asked to feature our home on HGTV’s What You Get For The Money! We are super excited, and quite a bit nervous. The film crew arrives Tuesday and are filming all day — to be completely honest, we were literally just notified on Friday evening that we “made the cut” and will be in an upcoming episode!

This is just huge news for us — Jodi’s natural talent shines through: her hard work, design, and attention to detail is evident in everything she does. Our condo is just simply amazing. To be completely honest, our place couldn’t be any more fabulous (see my previous blog entries for more raving about our place)….

The show itself is actually very cool — each episode is a themed around a certain ball-park dollar amount, for example, $500,000. They then feature a few homes (usually 3) in a 30 minute episode, each one in a different city in the U.S. So that $500,000 space in New York is a studio, just shy of 600 square feet, while the $500,000 space in Dallas suburbs is a 3000 square feet, 4 Bedroom 3 Bath house on a 2 acres near a golf course, and maybe the $500,000 Los Angeles space is a swanky little modern pad on the hillside.

The show also focuses a lot more on the people and lifestyles, as well as the homes and spaces they live — so there is a lot more for us to be nervous about!

Here’s to our upcoming 15 minutes! Set your Tivos, MythTV boxes, and PVRs to record (I’ll post when the episode airs) — super-stardom here we come!
